Comparing Chrome Ad Blockers? Here's How They Rate

If you're looking for the best ad blocker for Chrome, user ratings are a useful place to start. Here's how Ghostery compares with other popular Chrome ad-blocking extensions.

Several extensions offer effective ad and tracker blocking. What makes Ghostery different is how these protections work together, combining automatic cookie consent handling, transparent tracking information, and an intuitive interface. For users who want more control, additional statistics, settings, and filtering options are available.

Why Do Users Prefer Ghostery?

A high rating reflects more than effective ad blocking. Ghostery users appreciate the combination of privacy protection, an intuitive interface, and an extension that works quietly in the background. Here's what makes that experience possible.

Blocks Ads Across the Web, Including YouTube

Ghostery blocks intrusive banners, pop-ups, and video advertisements across websites, including YouTube and Facebook.

Whether you're reading an article, shopping, or watching videos, Ghostery helps reduce interruptions and stay focused. If you're looking for a free adblocker for YouTube, Ghostery provides browser-based protection for YouTube, Facebook, and other supported websites without requiring a paid upgrade.

Advertising platforms regularly change how they deliver ads, so occasional advertisements may still appear.

Stops Trackers From Collecting Your Personal Information

Online trackers can follow your activity across websites, building profiles of your interests and browsing habits.

Ghostery blocks tracking requests before they can collect personal information, helping reduce your digital footprint. This protection works automatically in the background as you browse.

Removes Cookie Pop-Ups Automatically

Repeatedly clicking through cookie consent banners can make everyday browsing frustrating.

Ghostery's Never-Consent feature automatically handles supported cookie pop-ups and declines tracking on your behalf. There's no need to configure separate filtering lists or repeatedly make the same privacy choices.

Shows You Who Is Tracking You

Ghostery doesn't just block trackers. It helps you understand what's happening behind the scenes.

Open the Ghostery panel to access the Browser Privacy Report, where you can see which trackers were detected on the website you're visiting, their categories, and the companies operating them.

The Browser Privacy Report is powered by WhoTracks.Me, Ghostery's own tracker database and the largest database of trackers in the world. It makes otherwise invisible tracking activity easier to understand.

Ghostery also brings this transparency to your search results. Its tracker previews show which tracking technologies are associated with websites before you click through, helping you make more informed decisions about which pages to visit.

Easy to Use From Day One

Privacy protection and ad blocking shouldn't require technical knowledge.

Ghostery starts working immediately after installation, with all protections enabled and configured for you. No setup required. Just browse with fewer ads, less tracking, and fewer interruptions. Its intuitive interface gives you control whenever you need it, without demanding constant attention.

Is Ghostery Free and Private?

Yes. Ghostery Tracker & Ad Blocker is completely free, with no subscription required and no features hidden behind a Premium tier.

Ghostery is open source and collects no personal information. Its protection is informed by independent research into tracking technologies, helping identify and block trackers across the web.

It's available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari, and Brave.
