Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
The Ghostery Browser Extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. For more information on how we handle data, please review our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Policy Supplemental Notice – California.
The Extension only collects and transmits the minimum data necessary to provide and improve its single purpose: protecting users from web tracking. The Extension does not require an account, does not collect login credentials, and does not process payments.
Specifically, in relation to the categories of data identified by the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy:
- Personally identifiable information – not collected. The Extension does not require a name, email address, or account.
- Financial and payment information – not collected.
- Authentication information – not collected. The Extension does not interact with passwords or credentials for any site you visit.
- Personal communications – not collected.
- Location – not collected. The Extension may use your IP address only momentarily to determine your country code for internal aggregate metrics; the IP address itself is not stored.
- Web history – the Extension contributes anonymous, statistical reports on tracker activity to WhoTracks.Me in order to improve tracker detection for all users. The transmitted data is limited to information necessary for identifying and analysing trackers (e.g. tracker domains and technical metadata), is encrypted in transit, and is processed in a way that is designed to prevent attribution to individual users.
- User activity – the Extension records and transmits aggregate, non-identifiable signals about tracker behaviour on the pages you visit (for example, network requests indicating the presence of a tracker). It does not collect data that can be linked to a particular user.
- Website content – not collected beyond the technical metadata about trackers described above.
Ghostery does not use or transfer user data to serve personalised, retargeted, or interest-based advertisements.
Ghostery does not allow humans to read user data, except where we obtain affirmative consent (for example, a message a user voluntarily sends us for technical support), where necessary for security purposes, where necessary to comply with applicable law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymised so that it can no longer be associated with an individual user.
Ghostery does not transfer user data to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve the Extension's privacy-protection features, to comply with applicable law, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
