Cosmetic Filters (The Cleanup Crew)

Hide what network filters can't block

What it does

Some ads are baked into the page itself. Cosmetic filters act like a cleanup crew, sweeping up the empty spaces, blank boxes, and stubborn pop-ups that get left behind when an ad is blocked.

Before
.sponsored-carousel
.editors-picks
[data-ad-slot]
After
Cosmetic filters hide what's baked into the HTML — sponsored sections, promo boxes, ad slots.

How it works

After a page loads, Ghostery injects CSS rules that hide elements matching specific selectors. Works on ad placeholders, promo banners, sticky popups, and anything you can describe with CSS.

What you get

  • Removes visual clutter network filters can't touch
  • Hides empty ad slots and placeholders
  • Cleans up sponsored sections and promo overlays
  • Uses standard CSS plus extended selectors

Turn it on

Active automatically when Ad-Blocking is turned on. Add your own rules via Custom Filters.
